Dear Mr. Ross,
I went 1965 to 66 as an Radio-Operator on the German Destroyer 1 ("Zerstoerer 1", former DD 515, USS Anthony). I have visit with this ship the United States in 1965.

The Ship "Zerstoerer 1" sunk at May, 16. 1979 at 10:15h, near Kriti (Mediterranean Sea) after Exercise-Torpedo-Attack. Zerstoerer 1 went in the last month of his life a "Target Ship" for the German Submarines. That's the end of a glourious Ship...

If you like some pictures from the German Destroyer 1 visit my homepage:

Under the Link "Navy" you will find a lot of pictures from the years 1965/66. Maybe you have time, also visit my Guestbook?

Excuse my bad English, please.
Sincerely
Heinz Albers

Dear Bob,
And now an other date: May, 16., 1979.

It's shure, Z1 went never a Greek Ship. The last years in the German Navy, the Marines takes the machine, the guns and so on away for other Fletcher-Destroyers.

The transport of the body from the German Harbour to the Mediterranean Sea goes "by line" with another ship.

The German Submarine "U 29" shut down the body at May, 16. 1979. See the picture in the annex.

We have in German more Websites who reporting about the Fletcher-Class Destroyer; but only in German Language. If you interestet look at
-----http://www.fletcher-class.de
There you can find many pictures. ("Zerstörer" means Destroyer.)
Sincerely
Heinz
